Fall, Winter, Spring?

Lots has gone on at Thunder Crest, despite my lack up ever updating the blog.
We finished out the year with 21 sales, 17 were OTTBs, GO US!  :)  I also finished out the year in an aircast due to an unfortunate mishap with a sale horse. It was super bad planning on my part, and you live and learn. After a good 6 weeks off (and still managing to get a few horses sold to finish up the year!) I went through an intensive PT and am just getting back into the swing of things. I must admit it was not a bad time of year to be laid up, but I wish I could have kept that good momentum I had going toward the end of the year going through the new year.

To top off all of that fun stuff, we had acquired a rescue from a farm in Massachusetts Sept 1st. All was going well until mid-Dec and Mr. Zip as we all have come to know him as, decided to crash. HARD. It was an intense few months of high does antibiotics around the clock, stall rest, wrapping and endless vet visits. There were two occasions I thought he was a goner, but he managed to pull through. We're now almost a month off of antibiotics, and still working on healing the wound up from the abscess that blew out of his tendon (you can message or FB stalk me for more info on that!). And we are successfully on the mend. We're keeping our fingers crossed that all thats left is healing up the gaping hole, as regression can occur at any time (we don't know WHAT caused the series of events) but so far so good.

We have a fabulous string of sale horses as well as horses in training for the long haul. We welcomed Drivenbychocolate (Latte) who is also entered in the 2015 RRP TB Makeover, Mr. Zip, and Fourlegseatsgrass (Tonto). We have just started our very own TC Dark and Stormy into work (JC Etruscan Prophet) after a long bit of let down from his extensive career on the track. He's one I bought on a whim off a gut feeling (because nothing I saw apart from pedigree I was initially impressed with, to be honest!) and I'm proud to say that horse is AH-MAZ-ING and I'm thrilled to have him as part of our crew.

Steve has remained in light work throughout the snow going on twice weekly hacks through deep drifts, and most everyone else has been relaxing and getting hay bellies! Lots of fun stuff coming up this spring and summer so stay tuned!!
